Today we kicked off the Ladies RX Discussion Series, specially designed teleconference calls on topics of interest to CrossFit women with Radical Hateloss themes.
Tonight’s call was entitled The Paleo Diet without Dieting and our special guest was the fabulous Melissa Joulwan! It was truly an awesome call. It's always such an amazing experience to connect with other women! A HUGE thanks to Melissa and each particpant for contributing to this important conversation.
If you are curious about Melissa or the Paleo Diet, be sure to visit Melissa’s blog, http://www.theclothesmakethegirl.com/. Melissa is also the author of Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Like to Eat. It is a must read, for anyone who likes to eat paleo or just likes to eat! Congrats to Sunny, for being randomly selected to recieve a printed copy of the book!
At the end of the call Melissa and I gave the participants a challenge….
WRITE YOUR OWN EATING MANIFESTO!
Whether you participated in the call or listened to the recording we invite you to create your own Eating Manifesto (Melissa & myself will be doing it as well!) Please post your manifesto to the comments section of this blog post!
A manifesto is “declaration of principles and intentions.”
What are your guiding principles and intentions when it comes to eating and your relationship with food?
Some questions that may help you write your manifesto…
-What role do you want food to play in your life?
-With whom do you -- or do you not -- want to share the eating experience?-How do you experience pleasure with food, physically, emotionally and socially?
-Why do you choose to eat as you do, not just in terms of what you eat but how and when?
-What do you eat for the sake of?
-How do you make choices?
-What is the relationship you choose to have with food?
We can get wrapped up in all the specifics of WHAT we are eating or not eating….but there is such power in tapping into the WHYS AND HOWS of our relationship with food. Take this opportunity to NAME what guides your journey towards being WELL FED- not just physically but emotionally as well! Share that manifesto with the world (or atleast melissa, myself and our followers) by POSTING IT TO COMMENTS!

I haven't listened to the whole interview but I was intrigued by the idea of an eating manifesto. Here's my writeup.
Lynn's Eating Manifesto
My basic principle for eating is to focus on nutritionally dense foods, to seek foods that will nourish my body efficiently and fully. I will eat when hungry. I focus on how my body is feeling and what cues I am getting from it. I will NOT eat if I am not hungry, even if the clock says it is time to eat. I will NOT be stressed by the need to eat six small meals throughout the day. If the cues from my body indicate I need them, I will eat them but I will not force myself to eat this way because "it's what the experts say."
I will see food for what it is, fuel and nutrition for my body, and NOT for what it isn't, an emotional release. I will experiment with new and different nutritionally dense foods. I will seek colorful and flavorful whole natural foods. This will NOT be the year of eating lettuce and chicken breast, unless that is what I feel will satisfy my nutritional needs at the time. I will NOT be afraid of good fats. I will avoid things that do not have nutritional value. The majority of the food in my diet (as a lifestyle) will NOT have a label or a list of ingredients.
Many thanks to Melissa and the other ladies on the call yesterday. Some of their input struck a chord and I chose to incorporate that into my manifesto:
I choose to fuel my body with the best quality ingredients available... with food that only serves to contribute to a constant chemical, physical, and emotional harmony within me. I will not deprive myself of special meals, on special occasions, with special people. I will fully savor those experiences as a single moment in time along a very long timeline of healthful choices. Taking care of my body from the inside out is a way of life, my way of life.
Did I just see you on The Revolution, kicking ass and taking names? You go, girl!

Stephanie's Eating Manifesto:
I choose to experience food and eating a joyous part of my life. I experience joy in nourishing my body, in the joy of the taste and the joy of celebration and community when I share it with others.
I ultimately trust my body’s cues, how I feel physically and emotionally in response to food and intuition when it comes to making choices about food and eating.
I choose to not use food to escape emotions. And if I ever find that I have, I will not feel guilty but rather ground myself in the next moment where I get to choose again.
I'm having problems getting my iPad to find the link to the call. Any tips?
