Listening to Your Intuition

My very first lesson in intuition arrived the moment I became a mother to a newborn. Everyone seems to know everything about babies. Your mother, your friends, your doctors, books, the internet…everyone has an opinion, an opinion they claim to be fact. And they are not afraid to tell you how you SHOULD BE DOING just about everything! What I discovered was this….that the right answer never came from anyone outside myself. Sure I listened to the advice of experienced moms and I did my research about the expert’s recommendations, but at the end of the day the perfect answers came from following my own internal gauge of rightness and listening to my baby’s cues. I learned to follow my own intuition.


Over the last almost year and a half, I have become mother to another newborn, my relationship with my body. Following my intuition has been essential to the vitality and health of that newborn just as much as it was to my daughter.

I have come to believe most people spend a lot of their time looking outside themselves for answers. They want their doctors, their experts, their trainers, the government, and their friends to give them the perfect diet and fitness regimen that will make them healthy (most of the time that’s code for lose weight). They want to know how to eat, what to eat and when to eat. They want to know how to exersize, how many minutes, how many reps, how many days per week. You want those answers??? You will most certainly find them outside of yourself…you will find LOTS OF THEM. You can find the science for and against just about anything nutrition and fitness fact.

So how do you decide what is RIGHT in the confusion of all the expert opinions?

You turn to the Expert of all EXPERTS. The expert that has a 24hr hotline available to you and only you. The expert that has all of the answers all of the time. The expert inside, not inside your mind but inside your spirit. Turn to your very own intuition.

I highly recommend you READ, RESEARCH & LEARN. I also think it’s wise to listen to the advice of those who have come before you, those who are living healthy balanced lives. Gather all of that and then check in with your expert…what feels right FOR YOU…through your experience. What makes sense for your life? What cues is your body sending?

When in doubt…..check with your intuition. It will steer you in your best interest, every single time.

Partner Challlange at Hybrid Athletics (strongman/crossfit= hybrid) this weekend.  Scared to death...but moving through fear has become my favorite pastime.  Can't wait to kick some butt with partner, coach and friend Nikki.  Hope she doesn't have to do to many burpees or pull-ups on my behalf!!
